Cobbler

Title:French Apple Cobbler
Yeild:Makes 6 to 8.
Description:Served warm, this dessert has a special melt-in-the-mouth quality.
Ingredients:

  Filling:                               Batter:

3/4-cup sugar                          1/2-cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2-tsp. cinnamon                      1/2-cup sugar
1/4-tsp. salt                          1/2-tsp. baking powder
1/4-cup water                          1/4-tsp. salt
  2-tablespoons all-purpose flour        2-tablespoons soft butter
  5-cups peeled,sliced tart apples       1-egg, slightly beaten
  1-tsp. vanilla                         
  1-tablespoon soft butter

Directions:

 1. Preheat oven to 375F. A 9-by-9-by 1 3/4 inch pan is needed

 2. Make Filling:  In medium bowl, combine apples, sugar, flour,
    cinnamon, salt, vanilla, and water. Blend well with wooden spoon

 3. Pour filling into baking pan. Dot apples with butter

 4. Make Batter:  In medium bowl, combine flour,sugar,baking powder,
    salt, and egg, beat with wooden spoon until smooth

 5. Drop batter in 9 portions on apples, spacing evenly. Batter will
    spread during baking

 6. Bake 35 to 40 minutes, or until apples are fork-tender and crust
   is a golden-brown

 7. Serve warm, topping with vanilla ice-cream or a dab of whipped cream
