Title:Molasses Crinkles
Yeild:About 4 dozen
Description:A thick and chewy cookie with crackled sugary tops.
Ingredients:

  2 1/4-cups sifted all-purpose flour
  3/4-cup soft shortening
  1/4-tsp. salt
  1/2-tsp. cloves
  1/4-cup molasses
  1-cup sugar
  1-cup brown sugar (packed)
  1-egg
  1-tsp. cinnamon
  1-tsp. ginger
  2-tsp. baking soda

Directions:

 1. Preheat oven at 375 degrees

 2. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon and ginger and
    set aside

 3. Cream together shortening, brown suger, egg and molasses until mixed
    thoroughly

 4. Stir in sifted dry ingredients 

 5. Chill dough in refrigerator about 1 hour or until dough is easy to 
    handle

 6. Prepare cookie sheet with parchment paper or a well greased cookie
    sheet may be used

 7. Roll dough into balls the size of large walnuts

 8. Dip tops in suger

 9. Place sugared-side-up, 3" apart on prepared cookie sheet

10. Sprinkle each cookie with 2 or 3 drops of water to produce a 
    crackled surface

11. Bake just until set but not hard, about 10 to 12 minutes

12. Cool on rack and place in air tight container
